There's something undeniably magical about our firsts, isn't there? Their ability to stay etched in our hearts, sparking feels of wonder and nostalgia whenever we think back on
them. Whether its a first love, first adventure, or in my case, a first K-drama, they have a way of marking us in ways we don't fully understand.
For me, Vincenzo, was that pivotal "first". It wasn't just the start of my K-drama journey; it was an unforgettable experience that completely drew me in. The mix of intense storytelling, dark humour and lets be honest, you can't deny the cute male lead (Joong-Ki), left me hooked.
From that moment on, I was captivated by the world of K-dramas. I knew I was in for a new obsession. Like all first, Vincenzo carries a special kind of magic and remains a cherished memory: the gateway to a passion that continues to grow.
Thats why Vincenzo feels like the perfect show to start the reviews. To me it's not just a drama. It's the one that started it all. The one that introduced me to the magic of Korean dramas and changed the way I view storytelling.
Introduction
It's not easy finding a show that has it all: humour, action and a hint of darkness, but let me
tell you, Vincenzo is the one show that will tick all them boxes. This drama, featuring a stellar cast of, Song Joong-ki, Jeon Yeo-been, and Ok Taec-yeon, keeps you engrossed from the very beginning.
A Fresh Take on the Anti-Hero

What initially drew me to Vincenzo was, well Vincenzo Cassano himself (seriously, how can someone be that cute?!). Vincenzo is not your typical hero. He’s a Korean-Italian mafia lawyer who returns to South Korea to recover his hidden gold.
Let me tell you, he's everything you didn't know you needed in a lead character. His suave demeanour, combined with a ruthless streak, makes him an incredibly compelling character. Song Joong-ki absolutely owns this role: him navigating this role with such finesse was a treat. His charm, humour, and flashes of menace are spot-on that you can't help but root for him despite his morally grey actions. Honestly, I think I spent half the show swooning over him!
Engaging Plot with Unexpected Twists
Vincenzo is packed with unexpected twists, keeping you hooked from start to finish. The story starts with Vincenzo returning to Korea to retrieve his gold, but soon finds himself embroiled in a fight against the Babel Group, a corrupt conglomerate that wants to demolish the building. Every episode feels like a rollercoaster, ending on cliffhangers whilst revealing new layers of scheming, betrayal and unexpected alliance. Every episode keeps you guessing, making it impossible to not love the show. Just when you think you've got it all figured out, another curveball is thrown, and trust me it's so worth it.
Dynamic Duo: Vincenzo and Cha-young
One of the highlights of the show for me was the camaraderie between Vincenzo and Hong Cha-young. Initially, Cha-young comes off as a somewhat profit-driven lawyer and self-serving opportunist, but as the show progresses, we see a fiercely compassionate and justice-driven woman, who will go to any lengths to fight for what's right.

The banter between the two leads is entertaining. It's witty, yet laced with clever sarcasm, and these unexpected moments of humour offers an escape from the dark themes of the show. Although the ending is bittersweet, it's open to interpretation. Whether you see it as a sign of hope or heartbreak, it leaves a lasting impression, echoing the unforgettable perfection of the entire series.
But a story is only as strong as its conflict, and what makes their partnership shine even brighter is the depth and complexity of their enemies.
Memorable Villains

The seemingly innocent but secretly menacing antagonist, is another standout element of the show. C'mon, let's be real, no one doubted he'd be the face of Babel, as I found myself sympathising with him in the beginning. His performance is convincing, adding an unsettling unpredictability into the story.
Dark Humour

What truly sets Vincenzo apart for me is its ability to seamlessly blend humour with heartwarming scenes. The eccentric tenants of Geumga Plaza provide plenty of comic relief, making you LOL even in the midst of tension. Yet, the show doesn’t shy away from exploring deeper themes like justice, corruption, and revenge. This balance of light and dark, of comedy and tragedy, is what makes Vincenzo a compelling watch.
A Personal Connection
On a personal level, Vincenzo resonated with me because of its strong narrative and complex characters. It’s not just a story about revenge; it’s about finding a sense of belonging and fighting for what’s right, even when the odds are stacked against you. The show’s ability to seamlessly blend genres by switching humour, suspense and emotion, while keeping you deeply invested is what makes it so memorable.
Conclusion

Vincenzo is more than just a drama; it’s an experience. With its captivating plot, memorable characters, and perfect blend of humour and action, it’s a show that will continue to linger with you even after the final episode.
And let's be honest- Song Joong-Ki's undeniable charm and good looks didn't hurt either!
As my very first K-drama, Vincenzo set the bar incredibly high, introducing me to a world of storytelling that's equally compelling and emotional. Whether you’re a fan of crime dramas, dark comedies, or just looking for something unique and engaging, Vincenzo is a must-watch.

Give it a try and you might just find yourself as hooked as I was.
